Field Tour
The 2025 field trip is hosted by Noah and Kirk Summers of the Summers Cattle Company, which is located along the Platte River south of Gibbon NE. The Summers graze both their pastures and neighboring grassland owned by National Audubon Society’s Rowe Sanctuary. We will discuss the Summer’s approach to pasture rotation, stocking, calving and genetics to meet their cow/calf production goals as well as Rowe Sanctuary’s goals for habitat management. Noah is a UNL senior in the Grassland Systems major and one of the Krutsinger Beef Industry Scholars. Noah and Kacie McCarthy (Cow-Calf Specialist, UNL Animal Science) will give a quick overview of the exciting Beef Scholars program. Arrive for the field trip between 8:30 and 9:00 am at the Rowe Sanctuary Visitors Center (44450 Elm Island Rd, Gibbon, NE 68840), which is located 15 miles southeast of the Younes Conference Center in Kearney.
